Breakfasts

So instead of recipes this time, I'm just wondering what people eat for breakfast these days. Do you have the same thing every morning? Do you rotate through stuff? Hot? Cold? And feel free to add recipes if you want.

  1. Breakfast? Who has time for breakfast? :) I am always on the run in the morning, so I rarely sit down for a "good" breakfast. But, if I have the time, and the inclination? I love french toast. I think it is my all-time favorite thing to eat for breakfast. I actually saw a recipe HERE today for french toast that looks simply amazing!

  2. I like to eat breakfast for dinner. Pancakes, waffles, bacon & eggs - scrambled or sunny side up or any way, swedish pancakes is a favorite too - any of those. When I was a kid, my brother would put home canned peaches in the blender which made a totally yummy sauce to put on pancakes instead of syrup. :) I love breakfast food. It makes me very happy. Oh, and Lucky Charms with milk & mocha mix added in is just scrumptious. Its comfort food - memories from trips to Grandma's. Never cracked wheat... yuck... when served that as a kid, we called it 'crappy wheat'. I still believe I am right. No amount of sugar will mask its disgusting nature. Thanks for trying mom.

  3. Most of my kids are morning people which means that they are starving at breakfast time. Sometimes we have fried eggs on toast; but I have to limit them to 2 eggs/2 toast (which in my house is a dozen eggs and a whole loaf of bread). This still doesn't really fill them. Oatmeal - 2 bowls is never enough for them either. With waffles or pancakes I they usually get as much as they want, but then they are hungry 1 hour later. And I can't even tell you how many bowls of cereal it takes to feed an 8 yr old boy. They, of course, like breakfast cake, german pancakes, or muffins. But those are kind of a luxury on busy school days. These are my breakfast woes.

  4. We go for cold cereal on the weekdays. Even my 3 year old has 2 bowls. Saturdays are pancakes - recipe straight from the Better Homes & Garden book (with a few adjustments):
    1 egg
    1 Cup milk
    2 Tbsp applesauce
    1 Tbsp sugar
    1/2 cup wheat flour
    1/2 cup regular flour
    1/4 tsp salt
    2 tsp baking powder

  5. I like my crepe recipe. It goes well with fruit fillings or traditional breakfast fillings like hashbrowns and scrambled eggs with syrup drizzled over the top.

    4 eggs
    1 c. flour
    1 c. milk
    1/4 c. brown sugar
    1/4 c. oil

Whip together and cook like pancakes on a griddle. Roll up desired fillings and drizzle syrup or cool whip on top.

  6. Overnight Sausage Souffle

1lb Brown & Serve Sausage links browned and drained.
6 Slices of Bread Cubed (I use English Muffins)
1 1/2 Cups Grated Cheddar Cheese
    1 1/2 Cups Milk
4 Eggs Slightly Beaten (Can use 5 eggs to increase amount)
    1/4 tsp. salt.

Day before, cut links into fourths. In buttered Casserole dish, layer 1/2 of the Bread cubes, 1/2 the Sausage, 1/2 of the cheese, and repeat the layers.
Mix: Eggs, Milk & Salt. Pour over the layers, cover, & refrigerate over night.

    Bake @ 350 for 45 minutes.
Uncover during last 10 to 15 minutes.

You can cut it into squares, and serve with salsa, sour cream, ketchup, or whatever you want.

  7. Have you ever tried to cook your bacon in the oven? It is awsome - 1. it all gets cooked at the same time. 2. it doesn't splatter all over the inside of the stove or outside of it either. 3. it stays flat while cooking. 4. you can walk away or do something else while it cooks.

so here is what you do,

    -cover cookie sheet with foil
    -lay bacon on foil
    -bake at 400 - 425 degrees for 15-20 mins.

  8. We eat all the aforementioned regular breakfast items:

pancakes, waffles, french toast, dad's surprise (which is scrambled eggs with hash browns, sausage or bacon and cheese)-you can serve it alone or in a tortilla, eggs and toast, hot cereals (cream of wheat with canned peaches or old fashioned oatmeal with chunks of apple)okay and cold cereal on those one days.

when i make german pancakes (we call them hills and valleys) we have to use at least 2 9x13 pans to cook enough so I don't do it often.

    occationally we might have
Muffins or breakfast cake, cinnamon rolls, cinnamon toast and cocoa, smoothie, yogurt, or my favorite leftover pizza.
    good luck!
    Juliet
